Robotic Arm Inspired by Octopus Tentacles

Image Youtube  A team of engineers from Beihang University and Tsinghua University in China has developed an octopus tentacle-shaped robotic arm capable of versatile functions both on land and underwater.  Inspired by the adaptability of real octopus tentacles, the robotic arm dynamically changes its shape, emulating the behavior of an octopus when grasping objects.  The researchers employed a mathematical method to program the arm's segments, mimicking the nervous system of an octopus tentacle.  The arm is controlled wirelessly using a glove, providing sensory feedback to the operator through suction cups.  Applications range from underwater exploration and delicate object handling in manufacturing to medical interventions, rescue operations, and even space exploration, demonstrating the arm's broad potential across various industries and fields.
