Just in time for Apple

Ultra HDR image support is in place in Android 14.

Google Messages now supports Ultra HDR images in the Android 14 RCS messaging app. In fact, Google sneakily implemented support before the launch of the Pixel 8 series in September.i

Ultra HDR 1.0 has been launched for Android 14 mobiles

It is good timing, because Apple is known to support the RCS message format from next year. In addition to the fact that the company will probably have to open up the App Store by March 2024. Pixel 8 has already received app support, so if you don't have it yet, you have to wait a little longer - moreover, the requirement is Android 14, a version that the vast majority of people do not have Pixel still waiting for.

Ultra HDR uses jpg-formatted images, but includes HDR metadata so that the image 1) can be displayed on non-HDR displays, and 2) simultaneously takes advantage of HDR displays' superior brightness and contrast levels. It is important to be aware that the recipient will not get the image labeled with the Ultra HDR logo or anything like that, but you will immediately notice it: the screen becomes much brighter when viewing HDR content, and jumps back to normal brightness when, in this case, exiting the Android 14 Messages app.
